Deep ruby colour, aromas of blackberry and fresh red meat.  Medium to full body, some sharpness of acidity and a mildly matt tannin with flavours of dark berries.  A nicely balanced wine and reasonably good value.

Castillo San Simon Crianza 2007 Jumilla

11 03 2010

Spain – Red – 2007 - 13%

Region: Jumilla

Producer: Bodegas 1890

Label: Castillo San Simon Crianza

Grapes: Tempranillo, Monastrell

Ruby red with aromas of dark berry fruit.  Fairly full bodied with a matt texture.  No remarkable length or finish.  Pleasant enough slightly baked flavours of cherry and blackberry.  Not a remarkable wine, picked up this bottle on offer for £3.99 but at the regular price would look for something else.

Domaine du Joncier Lirac Cotes du Rhone 2006

14 01 2010

France – Red – 2006

Region: Rhone – Lirac

Producer: Domain du Joncier

Label: Le Classique

A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan and Cinsault, this is a fairly dark wine with a purple tinge.  It’s full bodied with a smooth texture.  Aromas of berry fruit and licorice, flavour had a pleasntly jammy character and sight peppery spice.  A really good drink, would definitely buy again.

Charmasson Plan de Dieu Cotes du Rhone Villages 2007

13 01 2010

France – Red – 2007

Region: Cotes du Rhone

Producer: Charmasson

Label: Plan de Dieu

Dark red, approaching a purple hue at the edge of the glass.  Aromas of cherry and blackberry.  Medium body, soft acidity and a smooth texture.  Black cherry and blackberry flavours.  Blended from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre.  Although pleasant enough, didn’t find it to be an overly complex or interesting wine, will give it a miss in future in preference for something hopefully a bit more worthy.

Majestic  £7.49
