Outdoorsy floral aromas of a mountain medow.  Medium to full body with a velvety texture.  Flavours are suitably complex cherry and strawberry but still somewhat stilted – perhaps could have kept this bottle a while longer.  Bought this in France a while ago and it’s been in the cellar so not sure what was paid for it; a quick Google returns a price of US$26.34 which sounds slightly higher than I’d have been happy to pay.

Lovely light brick red colour.  Aromas of strawberry.  Light to medium bodied with a smooth, mouthwatering feel and flavours of cherry and strawberry.  A simple wine but eminently drinkable and good value at this price.

Montagny 1er Cru Les Millieres Burgundy 2006

Pale yellow colour, mineral aroma with white fruit – pear, peach, gooseberry.  Smooth texture with slightly sharp but mouth-watering acidity.  Flavours mainly to the front of the mouth, but with a long finish; smoky with abundant fruit tastes that are difficult to differentiate: pear, banana, apple, butter and slight citrus notes.  (Label says hazelnuts but I don’t get that.)  Loved it, this one gets high marks.

Domaine de Mercey Burgundy 2004

Light yellow-gold colour.  Butter, honey and a pleasant aroma of cooked cabbage on the nose.  Great palate of butter, butterscotch, hints of vanilla, a slight tang of lemon and mineral undertones.  Rich texture with fresh mouthwatering acidity.  This wine was perhaps slightly overpowered by the smoked salmon it was companioned with but overall made a superb lunchtime drink.  Will attempt to hold onto a bottle to see how it tastes in a year or two!
